HistoryGiovanni dell'Arco hails from the hill town of Bergamo, northeast of Milano in the Lombardia plain (northern Italy). A veteran of the 12th century wars between the Lombard League and the German Emperor Fredreich I, Giovanni traveled to An Tir to pursue a study of history, philosophy, and the arts, both gentle and martial.
In his years with the Society, Giovanni has earned his Award of Arms; presided over the Aquaterra Corps of Archers; served a term as Madrone's Baronial Chief Archer; passed the rigorous Serjeantry trials to become one of Baroness Janelyn of Fenmere's Yeomen; and was hand chosen by Sir John Fitz-Rauf, the Society Archery Marshal, as only the second administrative Keeper of the InterKingdom Archery Competition (IKAC) since its founding 20 years previous. Giovanni is also the founder and Webminister of On Target Online.
In September of 1997, by the grace of both Baronesses, Giovanni was released from his oath of fealty to Baroness Janelyn and joined the first class of Serjeantry sworn to Baroness Arianne Farnsworth.
At July Coronation 1999, Giovanni, formerly an Arcarius to Eric de Dragonslaire, OGGS, was offered membership into the Order of the Gray Goose Shaft, the Kingdom of An Tir's chivalric Order of archers. Giovanni asked for a postponement until September Crown, where he was "Granted" on the field by the Crown of An Tir before the An Tir Kingdom Protector tournament and inducted into the Order. The following January Giovanni took two Arcuarii of his own, Stephen of Ropsley and Donelle Stewart (formerly Donelle of Killdennyn). A year later Giovanni took Barak as his third Arcuarius.
Giovanni's greatest pleasure within and without the Society is the study of history, particularly the history of archery, his persona and food. He loves to tell Italian folk-tales and teach others about the history and crafts of Medieval archery.
Giovanni, until late, was easily recognizable on both the warfield and the target range by his choice of weapons. On the warfield he helped popularize throwing axes as a primary weapon and on the target range he used a longbow with his own handmade self-nocked arrows with all-gray fletching.
Giovanni is a very approachable person so please feel free to introduce yourself and share stories, comments or ask questions. He also enjoys teaching the arts of combat thrown weapons and target archery.
Mundanely Jonathan Satcher lives in Edmonds with his girlfriend, Tiffany. For three years Jonathan was employed by a small Seattle company as a software engineer until the dot-com bust. He now spends his time learning enough of new technologies to hopefully land an interview while avoiding the almost inevitable return to a customer service job.
