![]() Mundane Name: Joseph P. Haines Persona: 14th Century English Date of Birth: Old SCA Member since: 1983 With the Vanguard since: The very beginning. Achievements: Founding Captain of The Vanguard Current Affiliations: The 7th Cavalry Vanguard Rank: Magistrate HistoryAbandoned as a young boy by his Scottish mother, Druce was adopted by and placed in service as a squire to a wandering knight, Sir Guy de Coldrake, later to become King of Caid. Sir Guy taught him many things, most importantly a strong sense of chivalric behavior and the courage to speak up against wrongs, no matter how unpopular the view. (Mundane note: As I was not yet 18, the two years I spent as squire were in an unofficial capacity.)Nearly ready to take up arms in the service of his knight and King, Druce's mother reappeared in his life. Bowing to familial responsibilities, he spent the next twelve years working his family's farm and caring for his aging mother. Upon her death, he left the land in the care of trusted friends and returned to the known world. Finding himself in a new kingdom, Druce was overwhelmed by the chivalry and pagentry of An Tir, and knew he had found a new home. It was not soon after that he met Catherine O'Coffey, and the two of them confirmed the obvious by joining as man and wife. Joining with a group of like-minded individuals, they formed The Vanguard, a military order dedicated to the highest principles of chivalry. Druce served as the Captain of The Vanguard for the first two years of its existance, turning over the captaincy to His Lordship Stephen of Ropsley so The Vanguard might continue to grow and benefit from His Lordship Stephen's passion and nobility. Currently, Druce serves as The Magistrate of The Vanguard, and looks forward to retaking up arms in service to his new Kingdom. |
